Inaugural DISA Sports Tournament Results

Soccer in elementary school

This weekend has seen history made with the first ever Dongbei International School Association (DISA) sports tournament. DAIS/DHS were proud to be the hosts with the sports being U12 soccer and U15 basketball, which again was the first time that the Sea Dragons had competed in these age groups. Also participating in this inaugural tournament were Changchun American International School (CAIS Tigers) and QSI Shenyang (QSI Lions).

U12 Soccer

There was some real growth in terms of quality of individual and team play on day 1, which consisted of round-robin pool play. CAIS Tigers had the honor of scoring the first ever goal in DISA history. Both CAIS Tigers and DAIS Sea Dragons fielded 2 teams of boys and girls however, it was QSI Lions who boasted a 100% record at the end of the pool, with CAIS Tigers A team and DAIS B taking the guaranteed semi-final spots. There were some great goals scored throughout the day.

Day 2 began with a play-off between DAIS Sea Dragons A team and CAIS Tigers B team. The Sea Dragons took the final semi-finals berth with a last minute goal sealing a 1-0 victory. That set up a semi-final with QSI Lions who the day before defeated the Sea Dragons by 5-1. In a courageous defensive display this time around the game finished 0-0 after extra-time which led to a tense penalty shoot-out, which DAIS came out victorious claiming an unlikely spot in the final. In the other semi-final CAIS A team edged DAIS B by a single goal, setting up a DAIS A and CAIS A final.

QSI Lions secured 3rd place with a 6-2 victory over DAIS B, while in a well contested final with opportunities for both teams CAIS Tigers A team became the first ever DISA U12 Soccer Champions with a 2-0 victory.

Girls 3v3 Basketball

CAIS Tigers and DAIS Sea Dragons participated in a 3-team 3v3 competition over the weekend as we look to develop the girls game. The DAIS team consisting of Megan, Candy and Sunny performed superbly in becoming 3v3 champions. We also took the opportunity to combine QSI, CAIS and DAIS players into 2 teams for the girls to take part in a 5v5 showcase game to aid their development.

The South Gym was alive to the sound of bouncing basketballs as we had a 4 team round robin on day 1. Sea Dragons A team proved too strong for our Sea Dragons B team and the QSI Lions, but were squeezed out in a closely fought game by CAIS Tigers by single point in their other pool game. Sea Dragons B recorded a victory over QSI Lions, but were also defeated by CAIS Tigers, who ended the pool with a 100% record.

Basketball

Day 2 began with the semi-finals, with DAIS Sea Dragons A and CAIS Tigers both again proving too strong for DAIS Sea Dragons B and QSI Lions, setting up a repeat of the close 1-point game from the day before. A very close match took place for 3rd place with Sea Dragons B securing the bronze medal with a narrow victory over QSI Lions.

The final was a close game throughout with periods where either team held the upper hand and the destination of the first ever DISA U15 Basketball trophy was still unknown as we entered the final minute of the game. It was the CAIS Tigers who held their nerve to take the championship with a 23-19 victory in what was a great advert for DISA basketball!
