ACAMIS Glory: Football & Badminton Success for DAIS Teams

ACAMIS Badminton

Our Sea Dragons performed admirably in the ACAMIS Football 2024 tournament in Hong Kong and ACAMIS Badminton 2024 championship in Nanjing on April 18-20, 2024. The legendary tradition of the Sea Dragons Send-off took place on Tuesday afternoon, April 16, and by the end of the week the student athletes brough home quite a few medals!

Day 1: Memorable Thursday

It has been a busy and energetic Thursday for our football and badminton players participating in the ACAMIS Gold Division Championships.

Football

On Thursday, April 18, each DAIS football team played three games and cheered for other teams in their spare time. The boys opened with a 1-0 win against ISNS, while the girls faced a 2-4 loss to ISNS in their first game.

In the second game, the boys secured a 3-1 win over Stamford, and the girls registered their first convincing win against the AISHK B team despite the stormy weather.

In the final games of the day, the girls' team finished 3-3, and the boys' team lost 1-2, both against BSB.

Badminton

On Thursday morning, DAIS Varsity Badminton won their first match against SCIS 4-1 in Nanjing. Then the students fought really hard but lost their second match to NCPA 4-1, and won their third match 4-1 against ISB.

Our 4th game came down to the very last point. It could have went either way but unfortunately we were pipped at the post and lost 3 sets to 2.

Our last game against The International School of Macau was a tough matchup. DAIS team lost 3 sets to 2.

Overall, on the first day, we won 2 matchups and lost to 3.

Day 2: Fabulous Friday

Friday, April 19 brought some good news to our football and badminton teams participating in the ACAMIS Gold Division Championships - ACAMIS Football 2024 in Hong Kong and ACAMIS Badminton 2024 in Nanjing.

Football

Day 2 of the boys football in Hong Kong saw the boys secure their semi-final with a 2-0 victory over XIS. They then fell to a 1-4 defeat to the tournament hosts AISHK in their final group game to set up a semi-final against BSB. Our Sea Dragons rose to the challenge, showing great togetherness and team spirit in a tense game where they held their nerve to qualify for the final with a 3-2 win.

As for the girls they showed great endeavor to come from behind to defeat AISHK 3-2 in their final group game. They then worked hard as a team to defeat BSB 1-0, holding their nerve in another tight and close game.

Badminton

On Friday, our Sea Dragons finished the group stage and moved on to the individual competition events.

In the morning, DAIS varsity badminton won the final group stage game against WYIS, 4 sets to 1. Later, varsity badminton has made the quarter finals for the division.

DAIS badminton doubles

Boys' doubles placed in the individual event top 8 knockout, as did the mixed doubles team. These are great results considering there were 27 teams participating in the event!

Day 3: Final Results

The last day of ACAMIS Football and Badminton Championships is in the books, with great success of DAIS Sea Dragons on the badminton courts in Nanjing and football fields in Hong Kong.

Football

Our Sea Dragons performed admirably in their ACAMIS football finals on Saturday. Our boys team took on a very talented AISHK team in their final and hopes were high at half-time as we went into the interval 2-1 behind. However, AIS pulled away from the tired Sea Dragons as the heat and humidity over the last few days took its toll.

As for the girls, they were given a lesson into how cruel football can be in their final against ISNS. After going 1-0 behind Sea Dragons immediately leveled. The game went to and from until ISNS went ahead with a well taken strike. Despite Sea Dragon pressure where we hit the post and crossbar we were unable to take the game into extra time.

DAIS boys and girls both won silver at the ACAMIS 2024

We left Hong Kong with 2 silver medals and exceptional growth and learning.

Congratulations to Zuri Qu and Lucy Qi, Jasper Jia and Johnny Xue on reaching the ACAMIS All-Star tournament teams.

Thanks to the coaching team of Mr. Stones, Mr. Xie, Ms. Smith, Ms. Fakazile and Mr. Smith for supporting our footballers on their journey this year.

Badminton

Our team had lot to be proud of on the last day of ACAMIS badminton. After a heroic save from our boys singles player, Joestar Han, the team won our quarter final matchup against CISB. Then in a nail biting final game we lost in the semi finals to the host school NIS, 3 sets to 2. Coaches are incredibly proud of each of our student athlete’s growth and achievements this season.
