ACAMIS Math Quest & Rubik’s Cube Tournament

Mental Math

Twenty DAIS students from 4th to 6th Grade participated in the 2021 ACAMIS MathQuest and Rubik’s Cube Tournament April 12th-15th. The results of the tournament were released last week with DAIS demonstrating their skills in the four events involving Math and the Rubik’s Cube.

To kick off the tournament was the Rubik’s Cube event where students showed their speedcubing skills to solve the Rubik’s Cube in the fastest time possible. DAIS’s Raydon Lim in Grade 4 placed second overall in the tournament with a recorded time of 28.03 seconds – just a little over one second off the first-place finish.

The second event of the tournament was Individual Math. Participants were given 30 minutes to solve ten questions. Again, DAIS showed impressive skills with Dennis Luo in Grade 6 placing second overall, solving 9 out of 10 questions correctly.

Team Math was the third event where groups of five applied their collaboration skills as they put their heads together to solve ten questions in 20 minutes. DAIS took first place in this event with a team consisting of Bryce Noh, J.R. Zhao, Dennis Luo, and Kenneth Zhang from Grade 6, and Ben Le from Grade 5.

Lastly, a virtual competition called the Mental Math Blitz ended the tournament. Participants were given 30 seconds to answer each of the 30 questions. All calculations were done mentally, and answers were written in pen. Once again, DAIS took top stop with J.R. Zhao’s amazing mental abilities answering 25 out of 30 questions correctly.
