Looking for a school that nurtures leadership, wellbeing, and global values? At Dalian American International School, we believe education should shape not just minds, but character. That’s why our daily Advisory program plays a central role in student life, from elementary through high school.
Advisory is a daily time where students connect, reflect, and grow. It’s not a lecture or a lesson, it’s a space for real conversations, hands-on projects, and meaningful mentorship. Students explore topics like wellbeing, ethics, leadership, and global citizenship. They also build relationships across grade levels, creating a strong sense of community.

On October 15, 2025, Advisory came to life in a special Student Learning Event. Secondary students designed experiential learning activities for elementary students, turning classrooms into vibrant Learning Centers filled with creativity and collaboration.
At DAIS, we focus on School Wide Learner Outcomes (SWLOs), core values that guide everything we do. These SWLOs help students grow into individuals who are respectful and trustworthy global citizens, develop strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and become effective communicators and collaborators in every aspect of their learning journey.

Our recent advisory project focused on SWLO I, which states:
Learners will become respectful and trustworthy global citizens that demonstrate strong character through responsible, fair, and caring actions.
This theme shaped every activity, helping students practice fairness, responsibility, and care in real-world contexts.
The event was inspired by United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-being. Students explored problems and solutions related to health and wellbeing through interactive activities designed to teach empathy, resilience, and healthy habits.
The day was packed with engaging activities that brought learning to life. Students created arts and crafts projects that encouraged teamwork and self-expression, took part in simulations that challenged them to solve problems through role-play, and enjoyed board games designed to promote wellness and cooperation. They also watched and participated in lively performances that explored mental health and caring actions, followed by meaningful discussions where students shared ideas about wellbeing and global responsibility.

These activities weren’t just fun, they were designed to build character, spark curiosity, and help younger students understand how health and wellbeing connect to global citizenship.
Parents often ask: How will this school help my child grow as a person? At DAIS, we don’t just teach academics. We teach values. Our advisory program helps students grow in ways that matter most. They build confidence and leadership skills through meaningful projects, learn how to care for themselves and others in real-life contexts, and develop an understanding of global challenges along with practical ways to make a difference.
These are the qualities that prepare your child for success, not just in school, but in life.
This project was a perfect example of how DAIS students learn by doing. Secondary students took the lead, planned the activities, and mentored younger peers. They practiced responsibility, fairness, and care, exactly what SWLO I is all about.

And the elementary students? They had a blast. They learned new ideas, made new friends, and saw older students as role models.
