Secondary Students Showcase Social Awareness Through Advisory Projects

Anti-bullying project

On March 24, secondary students - both middle and high school - participated in a divisional showcase marking the culmination of their Unit 3 summative projects within the Advisory Program. This impactful event highlighted student voices and perspectives on a wide range of social issues, serving as both a learning milestone and a platform for advocacy.

The showcase featured interactive display boards where students presented their research, reflections, and proposed solutions on topics such as poverty, climate change, discrimination, mental health, and gender equality. With thoughtful visuals and engaging discussions, students invited peers, teachers, and visitors to explore the complex nature of these challenges and consider their relevance in today’s world.

Throughout the process, students were encouraged to dive deeper into the causes and effects of these issues, examine different viewpoints, and think critically about the impact on local and global communities. In presenting their findings, they not only shared what they had learned but also expressed their personal responses and considered their own roles in creating positive change.

This showcase provided an authentic opportunity for students to build skills in research, critical thinking, communication, and advocacy. As they interacted with an audience, students practiced articulating ideas clearly and confidently, strengthening their ability to speak out on meaningful topics.

The Advisory Program’s focus on social-emotional learning and SWLOs was powerfully reflected in this event. By connecting classroom activities to real-world concerns, the showcase inspired students to see themselves as informed, compassionate, and capable contributors to a more just and empathetic society.
