Go Sea Dragons! ACAMIS Table Tennis & Swimming Results

Swimming team

Last week, DAIS and DHS students participated in two big athletic tournaments: ACAMIS Senior Swimming Championships in Hangzhou and ACAMIS Table Tennis Tournament in Beijing.

ACAMIS Table Tennis

A 3-person strong Table Tennis team headed to Beijing this past weekend for the ACAMIS Table Tennis championships. Our team of Hank, Biel and Celiya participated in the boys team competition that consisted of 28 teams.

The opening day saw the tournament split into pools, and the Sea Dragons team rounded out the pool in 3rd place, unfortunately missing out on a place in the Trophy competition. So, on day 2 the team participated in the Plate competition. After a day of excellent performances we are delighted to say that the Sea Dragons were runners-up in the Plate competition, which meant an 18th place finish in the overall standings.

This was an excellent achievement considering our boys team was made up of 2 boys and 1 girl. Well done to Biel, Hank and Celiya as well as a huge thank you to our coaching team of Ms. Vivian Liu and Ms. Putiti Tjiyapo for their work throughout the season.

ACAMIS Swimming

After four exciting days of relays and swimming competitions, the swimmers had an unforgettable experience—competing to the best of their abilities, forming new friendships, and reaching personal milestones. Like any competitive event, the intensity of relays sometimes led to comparisons, which can impact self-esteem and motivation. However, these moments were overshadowed by the determination, teamwork, and camaraderie our team demonstrated throughout the event.

We competed against 30 schools of varying levels, with a high bar set by some of those schools. Despite the stiff competition, our team achieved some outstanding results, and some swimmers celebrated personal bests (PBs). A few students also participated in exhibition relays, gaining valuable experience. While there were ups and downs, the event was a win-win for everyone, as it gave us clear insights into what to work on and highlighted the progress we're poised to make.

One of the most memorable moments was meeting Andrii Govorov, the European world champion and one of the fastest swimmers in the 50 Butterfly. He graciously shared tips, insights, and inspiration, which was an incredible opportunity for the kids. Beyond the competition, the swimmers also enjoyed connecting with peers from other schools, making this experience truly enriching.

The trip had its challenges, but we returned safe and filled with wonderful memories! A heartfelt thank you to coach Stacy, coach Sonya and coach Lin for their incredible support, to the parents for giving their kids this opportunity, and to Mr. Robinson for making the trip possible for all of us!
