Student Organizations Getting Ready for Halloween

Student Government and NHS members

Halloween is near!

Monster Mash is the annual Halloween carnival hosted by Student Government of Dalian American International School for all the children in our community, with a nearly 15-year tradition. Over 30 fun games will be ready for children to play for only an 88 RMB entrance fee. During the event, there will be a costume contest (so everyone is encouraged wear your best costume!), food vendors outside, and a scaaryy Haunted House (age 7 and above, extra fee) in the Bilingual Building. Afterwards, families can go trick-or-treating at our Campus Village. Monster Mash is the Student Government’s biggest fundraiser that supports future student-led activities.

Student Government

Student Government is a student-led organization whose mission is to represent our school in facilitating an engaging school community. We do this by hosting nearly 14 annual events, from Sports Day to Prom to this month’s Monster Mash! Our goal is to promote participation and cross-cultural interactions, by involving International and native Chinese students in all our events. Within Student Government, DAIS and DHS students make up a combined effort as officers and members to create all our events, and we hope our success can serve as a reflection of the success of the combined International and Chinese school community. This year, Student Government has over 30 contributing members, including the 4 elected Officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) for DAIS and the 4 officers for DHS.

Our events are made to become highlights of students’ school year and create lasting memories. To balance the stress that school can bring, Student Government makes sure that students also have fun at school, which is why we have monthly House Events to foster a fun, competitive environment between students and their “Houses.” Not only is Student Government beneficial to the students who participate in school events, but those ambitious individuals who choose to become members, even more so those who decide to run for officer positions, learn invaluable soft skills such as management, service, communication, and teamwork. These skills will shape our students into exemplary members of society, and will no doubt be useful beyond high school and higher education.

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is an American-founded international organization founded in 1921, and established upon four principles: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four principles guide high school students to pursue more than what school and academics provide for them, encouraging students to achieve greater heights. Through the National Honor Society, students are equipped to become leaders and role models for all students and are empowered to give back to the community through acts of service fueled by passion for a cause, empathy for others, and personal endeavors. With more than 16,000 chapters around the world, the National Honor Society brings positive change and elevates a culture of scholarly dedication within the student body as well as the overall society.

Haunted House 2022

Halloween 2022 at DAIS

In Dalian American International School, the National Honor Society holds many events to bring a joyous time for the Dalian community. One of the biggest and most notable events would be the annual Haunted House. Decorating every inch and directing every scene of the Haunted House, the National Honor Society members build the Haunted House from scratch, making sure the Dalian community can enjoy an exciting but spooky time for Halloween. Through the Haunted House, the National Honor Society teaches students the aspects of patience, resilience, and commitment that are essential in achieving a successful haunted house. In addition, the National Honor Society members tutor struggling students in their schoolwork in hopes to lead these students to success in academics, whether it be conversing with them using English or aiding them in their mathematics homework. The NHS encourages members to use their skills to enhance other students’ knowledge through this tutoring program.
