Sea Dragon Sports Day ended successfully on September 8 with full of mirth. During the Sports Day, students were able to take a break from studying and refresh their brain through activities in an outdoor space. Divided into yellow, green, red, and blue teams, students participated in various activities, such as dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, relay race, and volleyball.
The dodgeball activity was held in the North Gym. Students and teachers in a team dodged balls to strike their opponents and caught balls thrown by the opposition. The game was held in a way that was slightly different than the standard versions of dodgeball. In each team, there was one student entitled as a doctor whose role was to save others who had been dodged by opponents. Unique versions of dodgeball activity brought a sense of freshness to students and optimized the enjoyment.
Ultimate frisbee game was held in the soccer field where students threw a disc to their teammates and scored the point by passing the disc to the end zone without dropping it to the ground. The rule of the game was very simple: as soon as catching the disc, the player should stop running and pass it to other teammates; they will score a point if they connect the pass until the end zone. This straightforward game was accessible to students of all grades and hooked many of them.
The relay race was held in the elementary playground. The game was subdivided into 4 parts. First part of the game is three people standing on the acupuncture mats and moving from one point to the another until they reach the table standby. After the first part is done, another 3 people from the team will toss the hula-hoop around the bucket for 6 times. Once 6 shots are made, another 3 people from the team will fill the cup on the table using a sponge. The last part of the game is that one person sits on the scooter board and needs to keep the ball on the table-tennis racket while being pushed on the scooter board by another two people. This game was a very good chance for students to interact with their friends through collaboration.
Volleyball was held in the South Gym. Coincidentally, since the past few weeks, our school has been on a volleyball season where the volleyball varsity teams have regular practices after school and students learn to play volleyball during their team sports classes. During the game, students were given a giant, heavy beach ball and had to send the ball over the net without hitting the ball on the ground. With effective collaboration and high interest in the sport, many students showed an incredibly high engagement during the game.
Thankfully, Sea Dragon Sports Day ended successfully without any accidents and injuries. The events wouldn’t be proceeded well without contributions from the Student Government officers working behind the scenes. They had spent the past few weeks planning events, ordering supplies, and running each game. During the Sports Day, each member of the Student Government helped teams to have transitions to next games on a right time, ran booths where students could buy water and drinks, and calculated the total point earned by each team.
Congratulations to the Yellow house that got the 1st place overall, and Green, Red, and Blue for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place respectively.
