Sea Dragon Summer Camp 2023 Recap

Summer camp on DAIS campus

Sea Dragon Summer Camp 2023 on Dalian American International School campus has been a blast! Children had very busy three weeks with language and STEM classes, arts, sports, engaging activities, field trips, yummy food and lots of fun in our rich learning environment.

Friendly Sea Dragon with kids

The DAIS Summer Camp kicked off on Monday, July 17. While our friendly staff and student volunteers helped the families with the check-in procedures, children started making new friends and playing together. And the cute Sea Dragon was there to greet the kids too!

During all three weeks of camp, students participated in fun and hands-on learning across Language Arts, Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM), Visual Arts, and Performing Arts. With all the hands-on deck, teachers facilitated inclusive and engaging classes throughout the Sea Dragon Summer Camp. The Camp consisted of sports with Coach Ning, swimming with Coach Hu, reading, and writing workshops with Ms. Bester, and project-based learning with Ms. Judy and Ms. Lauren. Throughout the day learners were accompanied by our fantastic high school volunteers, Samuel Liu, Jayden Kim, and Amy Xu.

Fun classroom activities

Summer Camp set off with a bang in week one. Learners participated in sports classes, they read stories, and learned about, and created a wildlife habitat for their favorite animal. During week two, learners went through Superhero training. The younger learners engaged in Super Cutting, Super Tracing, and creating Super Masks. The older learners imagined and designed a superhero. The learners flew out of week two in their customized superhero capes. Week three was filled with action and creative thinking. The older learners put on a show, reciting beloved fairy tales. The younger learners sang songs, played collaborative games, and decorated their own frisbee. Children also went on field trips in Jinshitan area - to the Blueberry Farm, Mystery of Life Museum, and to the beach!

Games on the beach

All day students who went to DAIS summer camp had a delicious lunch at noon, while the boarding program included three meals. Apart from classes, kids had time to socialize, play, have healthy snacks, and enjoy summer.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu

Students who stayed on DAIS campus overnight could participate in evening activities supervised by boarding teachers - including Brazilian jiu-jitsu!

During summer camp activities, children developed their intellect, character, and health through collaborating with students from diverse backgrounds.
