DAIS Elementary Celebrates Excellent NWEA MAP Results

Elementary students in the classroom

DAIS Elementary students have achieved excellent results in the Spring 2026 MAP assessments, giving our school community much to celebrate. Science averages were above the regional China comparison in every assessed grade, while Grade 4 performed above that comparison across all four subjects. These results show clear academic strengths within a competitive regional profile.

How DAIS-E Compares in China

Compared with the China average in our MAP report, DAIS-E students performed strongly. Math results were at or above the China average in four of six grades, with the other two very close to the China average. Science results were higher in all three grades assessed, and Grade 4 scored higher across every subject.

The visual below shows the results across all subjects and grades.

Mathematics That Builds Understanding

Every grade from Kindergarten to Grade 5 scored above NWEA's spring US school benchmark in Math. Grade 4 scored 235 compared with 209, while Grade 5 scored 234 compared with 215. This consistency across all elementary grades is especially encouraging.

At DAIS Elementary, we use Dimensions Math, a Singapore mathematics program, and assess learning against the Common Core State Standards. Students use practical materials, visual models, and mathematical symbols to understand how ideas connect. They learn to explain their thinking and apply what they know to solve unfamiliar problems.

Science Knowledge That Supports Discovery

Grades 3, 4, and 5 all scored above NWEA's US school benchmark in Science. Grade 5, for example, scored 214 compared with 206.

In the classroom, students put this knowledge into practice through hands-on investigations and inquiry. Guided by the Next Generation Science Standards, they explore evidence, develop explanations, and apply their learning through engineering and design.

World Literacy Builds Connections

Our MAP results show strength in literacy, too. Language Usage results were at or above the US benchmark in every grade assessed from Grade 2 to Grade 5. Reading results were above the benchmark in Kindergarten and Grades 1, 2, and 4.

Our integrated World Literacy program brings English Language Arts and Social Studies together, with students using reading, writing, and discussion to explore important ideas and understand the world around them. English Language Arts is assessed against the Common Core State Standards and Social Studies against the AERO standards.

Reading and Writing Informed by Research

Our approach to reading and writing is based on the Science of Reading and the Science of Writing. Children build the foundations for reading and writing from the early elementary years, learning how sounds and spelling patterns work while developing their reading, spelling, and handwriting skills. Our literacy program also develops vocabulary, reading fluency, and comprehension.

Writing is taught step by step, including how to build sentences, organize ideas, and improve a piece of writing. Students have opportunities to use these skills through World Literacy.

Grade 4 performed particularly well across the curriculum, with results above the US benchmark in all four subjects.

What MAP Tells Us About Learning

MAP, or Measures of Academic Progress, is an international assessment developed by NWEA. It adapts to each child's responses, helping teachers understand what students know and where they may need more support.

MAP also allows us to compare our students' results with other students in the same grade and at the same time of year. Taking MAP regularly helps us see how students progress over time.

The MAP test is just one way we understand student learning at DAIS-E. Classwork, assessments, discussions, and teacher observations give us a fuller picture of each child's progress.

Preparing Children for What Comes Next

For families choosing an international education, a strong academic foundation matters. Our MAP results show particular strengths in Math and Science, while our curriculum gives students the knowledge and skills they need for the next stage of their education, whether at DAIS or in another school system.

We are proud of what our students have achieved and look forward to seeing what they do next. We will continue to build on these strengths and help students understand, apply, and communicate what they learn.
