Happy Mid-Autumn Festival from Dalian American International School

Sea Dragon celebrates Mid Autumn Festival

Wishing You a Joyful Holiday

Today, as families across China celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, we send warm wishes to our school community. This holiday is a time for reunion, reflection, and appreciation of the full moon—a symbol of harmony and togetherness.

Although the official holiday falls today, our students celebrated in advance with a series of creative, hands-on activities that brought the spirit of the festival into the classroom.

Elementary School Celebrations

Led by Mandarin teachers Ms. Wang and Ms. Guan, our Elementary students explored the traditions and meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival through engaging, themed activities.

Mid-Autumn Festival activities

Activities Included:

  • Learning Moon Phases with Cookies
Students used Oreo cookies to model the phases of the moon. Each cookie was shaped to represent a different stage—from crescent to full moon—making science both visual and fun.
  • Mooncake Stamp Art
Students hand-crafted their own stamps in the shape of traditional mooncakes, then used them to create decorative paper ornaments. This activity helped them understand the cultural symbolism behind mooncakes while expressing their creativity.
  • Making Traditional Chinese Hand Fans
Students designed and decorated hand fans inspired by Mid-Autumn themes. These fans were not only beautiful keepsakes but also a way to connect with Chinese heritage.

Why Cultural Learning Matters

At DAIS, we believe that cultural education helps students grow into thoughtful, globally minded individuals. Celebrations like the Mid-Autumn Festival give children the chance to connect with traditions, learn through experience, and build respect for different cultures.
