Open Days
On the weekend of 17/18 May we took a record number of 43 athletes to participate in the Dongbei International School Association (DISA) U12 Basketball and U15 Soccer tournaments held in Shenyang. This was the first time we had a travelling U12 Sea Dragons team.
For their first ever competitive tournament experience our basketballers led by Dr. Canada and Mr. Diarez performed exceptionally well, with our "A" team coming back to Dalian having achieved the Bronze medal. Our "B" squad narrowly missed out on qualification for the semi-finals but did enjoy a couple of victories during the competition.
Our U15 Boys Soccer teams led by Mr. Robinson, Mr. Faicel and Mr. Walden displayed positive attitudes and growth with our first squad fighting hard in their final game against a physical side from Changchun, eventually losing the game despite their brave efforts, meaning they were runners-up. Our developmental squad made up of younger team members were unfortunate to lose in the play-in game, which resulted in a 5th place finish.
Our U15 Girls Soccer team, under the tutelage of Mrs. Smith, Ms. Hlongwana and Mr. Smith performed superbly during the competition, with improved performances as the tournament went on, comfortably qualifying for the championship game. In the final game they were made to sweat a little after their opponents CAIS Tigers made a late comeback, however the girls held on to secure the first ever DISA U15 Girls Soccer Championship.
Our athletes were commended by staff from the host school in terms of how they conduct themselves on and off the field/court which is something we should be very proud of. Thanks to QSI Shenyang for their organization, Oriental Cambridge International School (OCIS) for hosting the 2-day event.
We would also like to think our army of parents who supported our teams over the weekend- it was wonderful to see and we appreciate your great support.
Go Sea Dragons!
