Congratulations! Student Awards Announced

World Scholar's Cup

Our talented students have been excelling again recently in various competitions, including BBO 2024, Math Kangaroo and other science competitions, as well as the World Scholar's Cup (WSC). Students continuously set higher academic goals and pursue intellectual excellence, aligning with our school's philosophy of cultivating "School Wide Learner Outcomes."

Math Kangaroo

The Math Kangaroo is the world's largest youth math competition for students in Grades 1-12. It was started in 1980 by the famous Australian mathematician Peter O'Halloran. Unlike any traditional math Olympiad, which makes an emphasis on high difficulty and challenge, the Math Kangaroo aims to stimulate children's interest and confidence in math learning by using engaging and realistic topics, cultivate students' mathematical thinking, and train students' ability to read, understand, analyze, and solve problems, which is suitable for students of all grades and at all levels of mathematics.

Chanel, Math Kangaroo winner

Chanel Miao, DAIS Grade 4 student: "I have always been drawn to the universality of mathematics, as it transcends borders and cultures with its consistent meaning. This passion led me to participate in the Kangaroo Math Competition, where, with the guidance of Mr. Medeiros, I achieved the prestigious National Top Gold award. I am deeply grateful to Mr. Medeiros for his invaluable support and mentorship. Looking ahead, I am eager to continue leveraging the resources available at school to achieve even greater results in the future."

World Scholar's Cup

The World's Scholar Cup is an international team academic program with more than 15,000 students from over 65 countries participating every year. The Tournament of Champions takes place at Yale University. Two teams of six students  - Megan, Atticus, Zitong, Zijun, Yunpeng, and Seoyul - competed in the Regional Round of the World Scholars Cup 2024, winning 20 gold medals, 18 silver medals, 4 trophies, and advancing to the global round.

World Scholar's Cup team

Ms. Alessia Chizzoniti, Ms. Susan Carrara: "There were some unknowns as we prepared to compete in the World Scholars Cup for the first time, but despite the newness and uncertainty, many students attended ASA regularly and worked hard to prepare. Ultimately, we sent two teams to the Regional Round, which included students from the Heritage, Bilingual, and International Divisions. The teams did well, with both teams qualifying to attend the Global Rounds which will be held at different times and places through the upcoming year."

British Biology Olympiad

The British Biology Olympiad (BBO), established 28 years ago in 1995, is one of the longest running and most influential science assessments in the UK, with nearly 10,000 high school students in the UK participating each year. The BBO focuses on the breadth of knowledge but does not involve complex reasoning or calculations. Students are encouraged to use their biological intuition and imagination to answer the questions, which is an excellent opportunity to expand their knowledge base in biology.

Award Winners:
