Congratulations to Dalian American International School Class of 2020 graduate Mark Ma who represented St. Edward's University together with other 7 students and took the second place in the third annual HSI Battle of the Brains competition in Austin, Texas, US.
The Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Battle of the Brains is an academic national championship paired with an experiential recruiting showcase that allows participating students to compete for scholarship funding while also providing visibility into career opportunities at top organizations. This program was founded in 2020 as a way to help foster a community across HSIs as well as promote great, diverse talent to large companies that otherwise might not engage with these schools and students.
Student teams participated in a 24-hour, cross-discipline competition to determine finalists who `pitched` their comprehensive solutions to determine the Battle of the Brains Champion.
Our team of eight students representing St. Edward’s University came together in the fall of 2023 to compete in Battle of Brains presented by KPMG. We were given the question: "How should KPMG do to help with health inequality?"
We spent 24 hours (just like a Hackathon) to build a business solution and prepare a pitchbook for solving this issue. In our team, we had legal, marketing, graphic design, international business, accounting, investment (which is my major), and two computer sciences students, and together, we defeated 11 other universities! I'm proud of our team!

It was a remarkable week of education, innovation, and inclusion! Everyone had a fantastic time at the HSI Battle of the Brains in Austin – teaming up with 13 participating Hispanic Serving Institutions and 99 talented students from around the United States for a competition challenging teams to incorporate design, policy, business, and STEM components into business solutions.
Congratulations to The University of Texas at Austin, St. Edward's University, and University of Central Florida, for placing in the 2023 HSI Battle of the Brains. We are proud that DAIS alumnus Mark was a part of a winning team.
