Outstanding DAIS Graduates: Meet Shreya Singh

Shreya Singh

Shreya joined Dalian American International School in December 2006 when she was in 4th grade and stayed with the school through to her graduation in 2015. She started attending DAIS the year it began in 2006, and was the 22nd student in the school!

"DAIS’ diversity, inspirational faculty, and a strong focus on academics shaped me into a global citizen that embraced diversity. DAIS instilled confidence in me and built the foundation in me to apply education to society and make this world a better place."

She was a founding member of the school's National Honor Society chapter and started a school cafeteria lunch committee to better manage the trash sorting system. She also organized environmental activities such as Earth Day, community beach-clean ups, outreach programs, and more. She was the student body president too, and organized social events in the year including prom, a lock-in, a beach day and a fashion show.

Shreya led community service and environmental projects and raised awareness about the environment, not only in DAIS but in the wider Dalian community. She worked with the school board to devise an "Energy Smart" solution to save electricity costs and connected DAIS with a World Economic Forum-formed NGO in 2013, which helped DAIS become a "Water Smart School".

"DAIS experience will be a huge part of my identity. I carry this experience everywhere with pride. Experiencing DAIS’ international background always helps me to connect with anyone in the world and makes me compassionate. I made lifelong friends and valuable mentors that came from all over the world to DAIS. Additionally, my DAIS extracurricular projects always make me want to connect my education or even my current job to the community."

Outside of school, she composed and created an instrumental music album called "ARROYO" to raise awareness about the importance of rivers. Her music album was recognized by United Nations.

Since leaving DAIS, she has founded start-ups and now works in the FinTech industry as a Software Engineer. She envisions her future as leading a large-scale business and working on cutting-edge products in technology. She also aspires to continue participating and building a sustainable society.
