Outstanding DAIS Graduates: Meet Annie Ren

Annie Ren

Annie joined Dalian American International School in the 5th grade and graduated in 2018. During her time at the school, she was the President of the National Honors Society, Secretary General of the DAIS Model UN, volleyball team captain, and soccer team co-captain, and she also played basketball and made films.

Annie particularly enjoyed the school's AP courses and has fond memories of her teachers and the small classroom settings. Beyond the classroom, the athletic opportunities she enjoyed were inclusive and supported by great facilities. To her, the school's tight-knit community was also a major benefit.

Since leaving DAIS in 2018, Annie has graduated from UC Berkeley with degrees in Mathematics, Economics, and Art History. In college, she discovered a passion for research, and she had an investigative paper on the city's history published by the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association. Outside of classes, Annie was elected as the 70th President of the Berkeley Model UN, and she continued her passion for filmmaking, team sports, and road tripping across United States.

In 2022, Annie was incited as a guest speaker at the Dalian American International School Model United Nation 12th Annual Conference. In the video, she explained her current status at Berkeley and shared her valuable experience as the Secretary General of BMUN. Annie detailed the impact of MUN on her in high school and university life, as well as some of her own experience and advice to students preparing to apply to overseas universities next year.

At the moment, Annie is interested in law, art, and cultural heritage. She aspires to have friends all over the world, and to have a place to stay everywhere she goes. To current/future students she says: "Your time in high school is what you make of it. Especially at DAIS, where everything you can think of is within arm's reach."
