Teachers Familiarize Themselves With First Aid Skills

First aid training

"When bandaging a wound, don't wrap the gauze too tightly," "When performing CPR, it’s essential to control the pressure and speed well," "1001, 1002, 1003... Please count numbers in your mind while operating to ensure each compression interval is consistent. Familiarize yourself with this rhythm is key." This is a scene every Sunday afternoon from 3:10-3:40 in the student dormitory's first-floor common area. During this time, dormitory teachers learn first aid knowledge and perform hands-on practice.

"The first aid knowledge we learn is very useful. Some of it seems simple but can be challenging to do correctly. For instance, there are different key points when performing Heimlich maneuver on children of different sizes. Similarly, using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for CPR requires both technique and correctly following the instructions," said a teacher after a training session.

Mr. Rivera, Head of the Boarding Department, believes that including health knowledge, first aid knowledge, and especially CPR knowledge in staff training is essential. Teachers equipped with first aid skills can offer immediate assistance during sudden student injuries, thereby enhancing campus safety.

In September a number of our PE staff and sports team coaches received “Heart Saver” training provided by the American Heart Association. This involved CPR procedures, how to operate an AED in addition to how to treat soft tissue injuries. This demonstrates DAIS/DHS commitment to student safety and wellbeing.
