From international stages to our own auditorium, this spring has been a remarkable celebration of performing arts at Dalian American International School. Across instrumental music, choir, musical theater, and collaborative festivals, our students have demonstrated talent, confidence and a deep commitment to their craft.
From March 11 to 15, selected DAIS students represented our school at the AMIS Asian High School Honor Choir in Jeju, South Korea. As part of this highly competitive, auditioned ensemble, they worked alongside talented singers from across the region under the direction of an expert conductor. The experience challenged them to refine their vocal technique, strengthen ensemble skills, and engage deeply with a rich and diverse choral repertoire.

Beyond performance, the event created meaningful opportunities to connect with peers who share a passion for music, building friendships that extend far beyond the stage.
From March 17 to 19, DAIS students and teachers took part in the 4th Annual Nord Anglia China Performing Arts Festival in Beijing. Bringing together 350 students from 12 Nord Anglia schools, the festival celebrated music, drama, and dance through workshops and performances.

Guided by the theme “Step Up and Stand Out,” students showcased their creativity, built confidence, and collaborated with peers from across China in an inspiring environment that highlighted both individual talent and teamwork.
From April 21 to 24, students brought the Broadway performance Man of La Mancha to life on the DAIS stage. The production showcased strong performance skills and reflected the dedication and preparation behind this well-known musical.

With props created by our Product Design students and accompaniment by the advanced orchestra, the entire school community contributed to bringing this production to life. Together, we reached the unreachable star!
To dream the impossible dream,
To fight the unbeatable foe,
To try when your arms are too weary,
To reach the unreachable star.
On April 23, our choirs came together for a powerful and expressive evening that celebrated music, unity, and student artistry, and the simple truth that every voice matters.

The program featured a diverse selection performed by middle school, high school, musical theater, and advanced choirs, accompanied by band and orchestra musicians. From Mozart’s Lacrimosa to Uptown Funk, from a tender Ilongo lullaby to selections from Hadestown, students led the audience through a rich emotional journey.
On April 28, the DAIS/DHS Performing Arts Department presented the 2026 Band and Orchestra Spring Concert. The evening explored music inspired by our home planet Earth and the space beyond, guiding audiences through a wide range of styles and tonal landscapes.

From grounded sounds to bold and imaginative pieces, the concert reflected the creativity and range of our musicians. The performance also served as a meaningful send-off for Ms. Mims, celebrating her impact on our music program.
On April 30, the Spring Music Concert brought DAIS students of all ages together around the theme “The Me I Choose to Be.” The concert showcased the musical talents of our students, who performed with enthusiasm and confidence.
From Arirang and This Little Light of Mine to Dance All Day and ABC‑Ya Later, each piece reflected students’ growth and developing skills. It was inspiring to see our youngest performers share the stage with older students, supporting one another and shining together.

Across every performance, one thing is clear. At DAIS, performing arts is not just about the final show. It is about growth, collaboration, and the courage to step into the spotlight. Our students continue to show that they can do it all and more.
