What is Model United Nations? It is a dynamic simulation of the United Nations where students act as diplomats and work together to solve urgent international issues. This fall, DAIS students embraced that challenge at two major events. They joined SHAMUN XXV in Shanghai and hosted DAISMUN Fall 2025 here at school.
Both conferences highlighted the confidence, curiosity, and diplomatic spirit that define our learners. From exploring international cooperation in outer space to addressing the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and many other complex topics, our delegates demonstrated resilience, collaboration, and a strong commitment to constructive dialogue.
From October 17 to 19, a group of students from Dalian American International School participated in the SHAMUN Conference - The Library of Babel, representing our institution with dedication and commitment. Throughout the event, the students demonstrated outstanding preparation, diplomatic skills, and a high level of engagement in the debates and Model United Nations activities. Their excellent attitude, enthusiasm, and respect for diverse perspectives reflected the values and academic excellence that define our school community. The experience was a valuable learning opportunity that fostered leadership, effective communication, and a deeper understanding of global challenges.

Dennis, DAIS G11: "SHAMUN XXV was a valuable experience for our delegates, and myself as well. Most of our delegates on this trip are new to the professionalism and diplomatic spirit of Model United Nations - but the trip turned out to be both inspiring and exciting to them. On our first day, many were nervous and somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer size of the committees. But as the conference unfolded, the atmosphere in our daily bus back to the hotel turned from empty quietness into passionate discussions about POIs, speeches, and resolutions. By the end of the trip, our confidence had grown remarkably, and from the smiles on our delegates' faces I could see that they have developed a deeper, more genuine interest for MUN.

For me, this was my first time leading a delegation. It was challenging, but ultimately rewarding, as seeing our delegates' transformation and growth reminded me of why I was captivated by MUN back in middle school.
I would also like to thank Mrs. Arboleda and Mr. Duque for supporting us throughout our short yet enriching journey. Their patience and encouragements made this experience smoother and more meaningful for all of us."

With the experience gained in Shanghai, DAIS delegates carried their newfound enthusiasm and professionalism into the our own Fall DAISMUN conference in November.
On November 21-22, DAISMUN hosted its Fall 2025 annual conference. We were honored to welcome students in two fruitful days of debate where they collaborated to find solutions to real-world issues. Let's take a look at how this went!
On Friday morning, students gathered in the north gym for the opening ceremony of DAISMUN Fall 2025. Delegates were encouraged to think creatively and pursue bold, real-world solutions amid today’s complex global challenges.
We also welcomed speeches from the this year's secretary-general, Julius Chen, guest speaker from the DAISMUN Director Mr. Flanagan.

At DAISMUN Fall 2025, we hosted three committees over the span of two days: GA1, SC, and Crisis.
On Saturday evening, after two very full days of debates, amendments, and lots of POIs from delegates, everyone came back to the north gym for the closing ceremony. Mr. Robert Flanagan, who’s the DAISMUN program Director this year, and Thomas Sebahi, the Deputy Secretary-General, gave speeches to thank everyone and congratulate them on their hard work over these two days. Finally, the chairs from each committee came on stage to announce the winners—the Best Delegates and the Outstanding Delegates—for their committees.

Once again, we would like to thank all those who supported and contributed to the preparation and execution of DAISMUN Fall 2025.
Amy Li, DAIS G10: "Serving as the Conference Service Officer and GA Head President for DAISMUN Fall 2025 has been a huge honor. This year's conference was defined by its energetic vigor, diplomatic thoughtfulness, and the astonishing growth we have come across in every delegate, from finding one's voice as a first timer to perfecting the craft as a seasoned member. The hard work truly paid off with the dedication and intellectual curiosity shown in each and every committee. It has been my great honor to help facilitate this impactful and unforgettable experience."
Maurice Tolo, DAIS G10: "As one of the many first-timer delegates who was able to experience a local Model UN conference in DAIS, I'm glad that I was able to experience a very enjoyable yet educational event in school. It became an opportunity for me to learn many new things, such as how to write a resolution paper, how to amend, how to speak through a different and global perspective, or how to even seem poise and formal when I speak. Prior to the conference, I didn't know exactly how would the conference go. I watched a few YouTube videos to give myself a brief overview of what would it look like, but I lost my attention span halfway through. Rather, I decided to just live in the moment, especially because I had my friends alongside me. Looking back, I'm very much delighted to have learned a lot and made new friends. I am especially and honestly glad that I didn't miss such a unique opportunity."
Juyeong Lee, DAIS G10: "Through the MUN General Assembly on outer space, I learned how important international cooperation is beyond Earth. This experience helped me better understand the responsibility countries share in keeping outer space peaceful."
