From June 21–28, DAIS/Huamei Grade 11 student Michael Ma and Social Impact Lead Mr. Jacob Singleton are representing our school at the NAE Student Summit in Houston, Texas - the first UNICEF-recognized Child-Friendly City in the US! The event, part of Nord Anglia’s Global Campus Social Impact initiative, is focused on the theme of Leadership, bringing together students and educators from around the world to explore global challenges and local solutions.
The summit began with a warm welcome and reflection activities that set the tone for a week of collaboration and learning. Michael joined a workshop led by Lisa Petro from Generation Global, where students explored how dialogue can be a powerful tool for social impact. They practiced inclusive conversation skills and developed strategies to connect meaningfully with their communities on issues that matter most.
Students also learned about Nord Anglia's Social Impact Grants - a program that has awarded over US$735,000 since 2021 to support student-led sustainable development initiatives.
On the second day, with support from UNICEF, students explored the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), examining their origins, meaning, and connection to children globally. In the afternoon, Michael helped sort 6,500kg of donations at the Houston Food Bank, contributing to over 12,000 meals for the local community.

Day 3 kicked off at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, where students explored renewable energy. Michael also joined Peer Talks, where students shared their own stories of social impact. The day concluded with a keynote from Bee's Believers founder Emmanuel E., who encouraged students to lead with passion and purpose.

With two more days ahead, Michael and Mr. Singleton will continue engaging in hands-on projects, collaborative discussions, and leadership development activities.
DAIS continues to empower students like Michael through the Sea Dragon Service Ambassadors, turning global awareness into real local action.
