On October 21, all DAIS and DHS Secondary students came together during advisory for an important cause. Our Sea Dragon Service Ambassadors led a heartfelt presentation about Terry Fox and his inspiring life story. To support cancer research and prevention, we held a fun ‘Tape a Teacher!’ fundraising activity, followed by a short run/walk around campus.
Through these efforts, we raised an impressive amount of 10,000 RMB, which will go directly to organizations dedicated to advancing cancer interventions.

How did we make the event so successful? Let's ask the students who were involved the fundraiser!
DAIS: Who are Sea Dragon Service Ambassadors?
Angel Wang, DAIS/DHS Grade 12, Sea Dragon Service Ambassador: "Sea Dragon Service Ambassadors’ group is a team where we focus on planning and delivering meaningful and helpful services to our DAIS/DHS community. It also provides us with opportunities to practice our leadership abilities and share our thoughts on how to serve our communities, which is the reason I applied for this position. And it works both ways, we as students will not only become a better leader ourselves, but also make use of our unique abilities and contribute to our communities."

Thomas Yin, DAIS/DHS Grade 12, Sea Dragon Service Ambassador: "Sea Dragon Service Ambassadors community is a group of people who represent the spirit of DAIS/DHS. Our goal is to promote the school and provide some exclusive services for teachers and classmates. More importantly, we can also contribute to the entire society. This organization provides students like us with better experiences and opportunities to give our best efforts to this school, allowing us to influence the next generation of Sea Dragons to thrive. When I first arrived at this school in ninth grade, I had some confusion and perplexity, which prevented me from integrating well into the collective at the very beginning. That's why I applied for this position. I want to become a member of the school and contribute to the next generation of students. We will not only collect more useful information to make good adjustments for our future career but will also become better individuals through this organization."
DAIS: What is Terry Fox Run?
Thomas Yin: "Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. He became famous for his Marathon of Hope, a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Fox was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 1977, which led to the amputation of his right leg above the knee. Despite this, he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research."
Walk around DAIS campus
Angel Wang: "Terry Fox Run is a very meaningful activity to raise awareness on cancer research. Cancer had always been the type of diseases that is very difficult to cure. Terry Fox had devoted himself to this career, where he run the marathon of hope with one leg and raised millions of dollars for cancer research. It had inspired us to also contribute our efforts and carry this hope to our community as well."
DAIS: How did the event go at DAIS/DHS?
Angel Wang: "Through organizing and planning of the event, I thought it went really well. The “wow” moment would be to see everyone running or walking around the school and participating in this event. It’s amazing to see what we planned had come together and come alive. The part I like the most, to be honest, would be taping the teachers. Students found it interesting, and we really appreciate teachers for joining and helping us with fundraising. Thank you, Mr. Burton, Ms. Ang, Ms. Hlongwana, Mr. W, Mr. Sanchez, and Ms. Sonya!"
Tape a Teacher!
Thomas Yin: "In fact, the event went more smoothly than we had imagined. I am very, very happy to see many people participate, especially when six teachers volunteered to join us for raising funds to provide assistance for cancer research. My heart is very touched. What surprised me the most was when I saw the teachers being taped to the poles by the students. The moment of happiness between the teachers and students was unforgettable for me. My favorite thing is to see the Sea Dragon family unite and hold an event. Thank you very much to the teachers, Ms. Sonya, Mr. Sanchez, Mr. Burton, Ms. Ang, Ms. Hlongwana, and Mr. Waldvogel's positive contributions to cancer research."
