DAIS Middle School Students Bring Science to Life at First-Ever Science Fair

Science fair

DAIS Middle School proudly hosted its first-ever Science Fair, a dynamic celebration of student-led inquiry and innovation. Organized by Mr. Iwanyshyn, Head of Science, the event featured projects from students in Grades 6, 7, and 8, showcasing their creativity, curiosity, and commitment to scientific exploration.

Throughout the day, students presented their work to peers, teachers, and families, transforming the school into a hub of discovery. Projects explored a wide range of scientific questions and engineering challenges, including:

  • What Type of Ice Cream Melts the Fastest?
  • How Helium Lifts?
  • Dynamic Airplane Design Project
  • The Growth of Grass
  • The Influence of Different Formula on Slime Elasticity
  • Solar Powered Water
  • What Affects Thermal Velocity?
  • A Matter of Time
  • and many more!

Each project reflected months of research, experimentation, and problem-solving. Students engaged visitors with interactive demonstrations and thoughtful explanations, turning science into an adventure.

Mr. Iwanyshyn shared his thoughts on the purpose and impact of the fair: “The idea is that students can pursue any area of science they’re truly passionate about, and apply both the scientific method and elements of the engineering design process to bring their ideas to life. The result is a project they’re proud of—and now they get to share what they’ve been working on all year with us.”

The success of this inaugural event marks the beginning of a new tradition at DAIS - one that will continue to inspire future scientists and innovators.
