At Dalian American International School, fostering a love for learning and research is at the heart of our academic programs. In December 2024, two engaging library events highlighted our commitment to cultivating critical thinking, academic excellence, and a passion for reading among students.
In early December, students participated in an interactive workshop designed to build essential research skills. Researching topics from the French Revolution for Mr. Waldvogel's Grade 10 Social Studies course, students learned how to navigate the library’s database effectively to find credible academic resources.
Led by our knowledgeable librarian, Mrs. Kaouthar Marouani, the session introduced strategies for crafting targeted searches, distinguishing reliable sources, and evaluating information critically. Emphasizing the importance of using trusted academic content, the workshop underscored responsible research practices and the value of proper citations.
This hands-on experience equipped students with practical tools for academic success while fostering confidence and critical thinking. Sessions like these reflect the dedication of the DAIS Social Studies Department to preparing students for rigorous research and lifelong learning.
From December 9 to 13, the Secondary Library transformed into a literary café for Book Tasting Week. During this event, Grades 6-12 students explored a curated "book menu" featuring engaging reads across various genres. Teachers brought their classes to savor this unique experience, inspiring a love of reading and helping students select books to enjoy over the winter break.
The event combined creativity and exploration, leaving students excited to dive into their chosen stories during the holidays. By showcasing a variety of genres and themes, Book Tasting Week encouraged students to broaden their literary horizons and develop a deeper appreciation for reading.
Through initiatives like the research workshop and Book Tasting Week, DAIS continues to empower students with the skills and enthusiasm needed for academic and personal growth. These events not only enrich the learning experience but also inspire a lifelong love for knowledge and literature.
