Opening Doors to Literature: Welcome to DAIS Library

Secondary library

We would like to introduce our secondary school library, which opened up a vast, eclectic universe for many students in Dalian American International School.

Our library is equipped with fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and more realm for every literary appetite, being ready to transport readers to uncharted territories and thought-provoking landscapes.

With a passion for literature and an encyclopedic knowledge of the collection, our librarians Ms. Kylee Slough and Mr. Faicel Abderahmen are not just custodians of the books but guides on the literary journey. Approach them with a query, and you'll uncover a wealth of recommendations, turning your visit into a personalized adventure.

Genre index in the library

We conducted an interview with Ms. Kylee Slough, our DAIS Head Librarian. During the interview, she introduced different aspects of our library:

  1. We arranged the books by genre through indicating them with different colors: such as pink for humor, dark blue for historical fiction, and so on.
  2. We use lexile rating to offer students the books that align with their level of English.
  3. We regularly update the book collections to provide students with varied and modern reading options.
  4. Our school offers audiobooks to advance students' understanding of texts in foreign languages.

Our library is not just about books; it's an immersive experience. Cultural corners invite exploration, providing glimpses into diverse traditions and global perspectives. Cozy reading nooks beckon those seeking a tranquil space to dive into the world of words. These thoughtful touches make our library a hub not just for academic pursuits but for fostering a love of learning and appreciation for different cultures.

Our school categorizes the book by their lexile level to provide linguistic support for students who take MAP test. Lexile is the reading level of a book which is assigned by a number to indicate the range of difficulty of the book. By indicating the lexile rating, students can find books with perfect balance between challenging and comprehension. By offering the lexile level, DAIS empowers its best effort unlocking students' full potential of reading, fostering their reading journey.

In keeping with the digital age, our library seamlessly integrates technology into the reading experience. Online databases, e-books, and interactive resources such as audiobooks ensure that students have a dynamic and modern approach to knowledge. The convergence of technology and tradition reflects our commitment to preparing students for the ever-evolving landscape of information.

Let our DAIS library guide you through the uncharted territories of knowledge! Welcome to the Secondary Library!
