Our volleyball teams were more than excited to travel and participate in the ACAMIS tournament after years of pandemic restrictions.
The journey started on Wednesday, November 1. Following the school tradition, DAIS and Huamei students and teachers lined up in the secondary school hallways to send off our athletes. We encouraged and cheered on our volleyball teams leaving for Beijing that morning.
Our Sea Dragon teams played their first two matches on Thursday, November 2. Boys showed flashes of potential in both their games before going down in both matches against the British School of Beijing, Shunyi and Stamford American School, Hong Kong, while the girls recovered from losing their first game against International School of Nanshan Shenzhen to defeat Stamford American in their second game.
Both DAIS teams played three games on November 3. Girls have qualified for semi-finals, and boys will play for the 5th place tomorrow.
BSB Kindergarten, the tournament hosts, made heartfelt posters and a cool Dragon to support our team:
Our girls won the 3rd place after a series of suspenseful games. They played so well but lost a very close semi-final to the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen. Right after that, they triumphed over Australian International School Hong Kong during the bronze medal match. Good job, DAIS student athletes and their coaches!
DAIS boys played very well but finished 6th after a 3-set loss to the British School of Beijing, Shunyi.
It was a great opportunity to hone their skills!
