Melting Pot: Musical Showcase

Musical performance - Gloria

On March 29 and 30, DAIS secondary Musical Theater class presented a multicultural performing arts experience. Numerous songs and stand-up comedies both in English and Chinese brought joy to the audience.

The Melting Pot was an elaborate menagerie of performances far and wide, celebrating the beautiful differences in ways of life between various people in our school community.

After a traditional guqin performance by Alice at the very beginning, the students presented a song from Les Mis. Les Miserable is a musical adapted from Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, telling the story of a revolution that took place in 19th-century France. It was originally in French and then translated into English, becoming popular worldwide. One Day More is the most well-known song in this musical. It describes the tension one day before the revolution and the hope and ideal within people's hearts that have been pressed for so long.

Cold killer

Cold Killer was one of the most memorable performances of this event. We truly enjoyed this funny musical sketch presented by Peter and Johnny.

Next was was another beautiful song, A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman - a very popular movie around the world that appealed to audience of all generations. It illustrates the beauty of love and friendship through the story of P.T. Barnum. In our rendition of the performance, students combined the original movie along with modern day elements to show that love and friendship is an important part of everyone’s life despite the time periods in history.

A Million Dreams

The Bad End Night play presented after that is about the events that took place in a mansion that the protagonist, a magical girl, visited when she lifted a curse. Then Christy let us enjoy her angelic voice in Wishes and Gloria, the latter performed together with Dimoo.

Crosstalk brought to stage by Eric and Wayne was a kind of folk rap art. The performers cooperated with each other and made the audience laugh. Another fun performance Where Is the Time Gone interpreted how people are kidnapped by mobile APPs in modern society. As netizens said, "All APPs are trying their best to seize the user's time, and they have become our daily activities." The sketch by Jared and Jin Gang truly reflected the social phenomena and criticized the social reality in a humoristic way.

Funny sketch about social media

Try Everything: a fun acapella musical performance celebrating unity on Earth, capped the night off.

A big thank you to Rebecca on the piano and Mr. Bryant and Ms. Saez for this amazing musical experience!
