Remodeled Advisory Program: Middle School Assembly

Kindness presentation

In DAIS Secondary, we value the holistic development and individualized support of all the students in our care. As such, we have dedicated time in the academic year to pastoral care in the form of daily advisory lessons, where teachers have an opportunity to interact with small groups of students to monitor their academic progress, their emotional well-being and the development of their 21st century skills.

In addition, our Advisory program is strategically designed to help foster stronger teacher-student relationships and a deeper sense of belonging and community among our student body. Advisory therefore serves multiple purposes and is being designed in such a way that our students are provided with as many opportunities as possible to reach their full potential in all aspects of their growth and development.

Advisory empire

One of the earlier community events that students have been working on during advisories was the World Children's Day in November. The last week of March 2023 marked the end of Advisory Unit 3 #BeKind. Teachers have been engaging students in meaningful conversations and highlighting the importance of both empathy and accountability in our school. The summarize the unit, students took part in Grade Level Activities all on the theme of kindness.

You can spot multiple colorful billboards with the #BeKind hashtag all around the secondary school building hallways these days. One of the boards has been decorated by Grade 6 students and their teacher Ms. Ana Diarez. On Monday, March 27, during the Middle School assembly students made an interactive presentation in front of it highlighting different acts of kindness.

Board about kindness

We hope to see more meaningful projects incorporated in our Advisory Program this and next year. Our teachers truly care about the welfare and development of our students, and this program is where they show it. They are making advisory a space where our students don't just strive to survive as individuals but learn to thrive as global citizens!
