Two New Playgrounds Open at DAIS

New playground on campus

Dalian American International School is housed in a purpose built facility that enhances the delivery of high quality programs in the arts and sciences. Our excellent school facilities are being continuously renovated and updated to provide a modern and versatile instructional environment.

One of the more exciting changes that will be of particular interest to our younger students and their parents are the improvements we made to the school’s playground areas. We built two new playgrounds on campus this year, and also did general maintenance on the playground structure located west of the Secondary Building. This work included repairing the brickwork surrounding the play area, updating the flooring around the climbing wall, and replacing the sand around the playground equipment.

Early years playground

The new Early Years playground is located on the west side of the South Gym. Students in DAIS PreK and Kindergarten, as well as Montessori will have exclusive use of this play area which includes, among other things, safety elastic floor mats, climbing structures with several slides, a sandpit, a train structure with engine and railway carriage, a wooden seesaw, a set of wooden swings, a music play panel and an emotion play panel.

The new Elementary playground is located in the central court between the Secondary School and the Elementary School. This area will service Grades 1-5 of the DAIS Elementary and Grades 1-6 of the DHS Elementary and Heritage students. It has the following features: safety elastic floor mats, an exercise climbing net, a climbing structure with multiple slides, a pony seesaw, a water lily seesaw, a steel swing set, a rope seat swing, a sand pit and even a zip line!

Elementary playground

To celebrate the construction of our new playgrounds on DAIS campus, we had a grand opening celebration on Wednesday, October 20. Students, teachers and parents gathered around the playground located in the central court. After a short speech from Dr. Lee and a few demonstrations from student leaders, all kids could try the new equipment.

Thank you to the Parent School Partnership for working with us to help us create these exciting new play opportunities for our youngest students.
