On Tuesday, May 25th DAIS and DHBS Elementary School hosted a Music Showcase concert where students shared their musical talents with our community. Students presented all genres of music – from classical instrumental music and and Russian ballet to pop and rock. Each of them won plaudits from the audience for being brave, diligent and truly talented.
Some students decided to showcase traditional Chinese musical instruments. Chelsey played a beautiful piece on pipa – one of the oldest instruments with a crisp, passionate voice and a variety of playing techniques. Jessie presented guzheng, and JC chose erhu. This part was particularly interesting for our foreign families, they were happy to get to know these instruments and traditional Chinese music.
Other students were real rock stars! Sien, Sihan and Jack did extremely well on drums, and then Kyle played As Darkness Gathers on electric guitar. That was just amazing!
Catherine, Qin, Herman, Sophinna and more young musicians on piano, Tony and Ryan on cello, and James, Lena, Joey and Aaron on violin took us to the land of classical music. Then RAD DAIS – our famous trio made up of Raydon, Aaryan and Dorothea accompanied themselves on guitars and ukulele singing Havana by Camila Cabello. Sanvi and Mihir presented their home country singing Jai Ganesha Deva, and Sissi performed the popular Chinese song “Your Smile Is So Beautiful”.
That was a fantastic concert! A big thank you to Mr. Reyna for the idea and to all young musicians for sharing their talents with us.
