Scott believes a workshop approach to reading and writing is the key to nurturing lifelong passionate readers and writers.
After graduating from the University of Montana with a forestry degree, Scott McCoy earned an English literature degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. He began his career teaching English at John Tyler High School for two years, and then he and his wife Sharon moved to Portland, Oregon where he taught middle school humanities in the Gresham School District for the next twenty-eight years. In 2006 Scott became a nationally certified teacher and renewed his certification in 2016.
Scott has three children: Dylan, Morgan, and Lance. Following extensive training through Columbia Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Scott believes a workshop approach to reading and writing is the key to nurturing lifelong passionate readers and writers. His favorite adult novel is Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises (Paris, Spain, bullfighting, fly fishing– what’s not to love?). His favorite student novel is The Hobbit or any other good fantasy author.
