Middle School Speech Contest

On April 1st, DAIS/DHA hosted the 1st Middle School Speech Contest.

On April 1st, DAIS/DHA hosted the 1st Middle School Speech Contest. There were 15 students competing in two categories. One was original oratory, in which students prepared a speech about one of five topics, and impromptu, in which students prepared and presented a speech in 7 minutes on a randomly selected topic.

The MS students all did extremely well. They tried their best and demonstrated great speaking and presenting skills. With an audience of roughly 50 people, it was quite amazing to watch these young speakers bravely step up to the podium to share their ideas.

Here are some examples of topics that they discussed:

  • Does technology make us more alone?
  • What are three traits of a good leader?
  • What should be done to stop cyberbullying?
  • Does your nationality define who you are?
  • Does peer pressure help students grow?

Although all students did well, the winners for each category were as follows:

  Oratory Impromptu
First Place Suah Lee Jonny Zhao
Second Place Susan Li Benny Zhao
Audience Choice Tim Dian Alan Xu

We look forward to seeing the great speeches to come from these student speakers in the future.
