Ann Nordness

Ann Nordness joined the DAIS community in 2009. She works as the school counselor. Prior to DAIS, she held the position as high school counselor in Caracas, Venezuela. Mrs. Nordness grew up in Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin Platteville. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. She has taught first through third grade and has been a counselor at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Her international experience includes five years in Libya, six years in Saudi Arabia, and three years in Venezuela. While in the states she has held numerous leadership positions in the Minnesota Counseling Association. She participated in an international study group with administrators, college professors, teachers and counselors from the Netherlands and Russia to develop counseling services for students in the Russian education system.

 

Jean O'Neil

Jean O’Neil comes to DAIS with over 20 years of experience in visual arts curriculum, instruction, and administration. She is a certified Washington State Educator K – 12 in Visual Arts and English. O'Neil received her B.S. in Education and Studio Art from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire. While at Keene, she obtained the first female studio assistant position under the Sculpture Department Chair, Jack Marshall. “It was in the midst of the smoke and fire of the Keene sculpture studio that I fell in love with clay”. O’Neil went onto receive her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from City University of Seattle where she later became an Associate Faculty and Field Supervisor for the Albright School of Education. Some of her previous professional positions in the visual arts also include: Art Specialist, Art Department Chair, California College of the Arts, Assistant Director of Admissions, and Director of Joline Art Center. O’Neil is a nationally exhibiting visual artist, who is committed to supporting community based visual arts programs. As a Southwest Washington Community Idea Grant and CTRAN Community Grant Award Recipient, she was able to forge community alliances for project based service learning programs. In her words “Art is for everyone and is connected to every facet of our current world culture and those of the past. We are able to cross all cultural boundaries through the integration of the arts.”

 

Cynthia Perez

Cynthia (Cindy) Perez joined DAIS in August 2011 as a second grade teacher. Mrs. Perez has a home in Brownsville, Texas, but was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She earned a bachelor degree in Elementary Education from Wichita State University and taught kindergarten and designed an instructional television program for a district wide pre-kindergarten project. During her fifteen years in Brownsville she also completed her master’s degree in Supervision and became Bilingually Certified. She has taught in Somalia, Southern Peru, Syria, Tunisia, and finally a founding member of a new ISS start-up school in Beihai, China. During this time, Cindy along with her husband raised two children who are currently living and working in the United States. Mrs. Perez loves reading, traveling and visiting with her family via Skype.

 

Joe Fred Perez

Joe Fred Perez started the Dalian American International School segment of his overseas teaching adventure in August, 2011. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. His Masters' degree in Supervision/Bilingual Education is from the University of Texas - Pan American. Mr. Perez started his career in Brownsville, Texas and has enjoyed teaching in Somalia, Peru, Syria and Tunisia before coming to China. He has taught at all grade levels, he is currently teaching Humanities for the Middle School - 7th Grade. Mr. Perez has been active in school and community committees and projects. He has served a school staff representative to the NESA and MAIS conferences of schools as well as being PTA president/officer and working on other school wide committees. Mr. Perez is the proud father of two and the joyous grandfather of three.

 

Paula Peters-Frampton

Paula Peters-Frampton joined DAIS in 2008 and is currently the primary EAL (English as an Additional Language) specialist. Ms. Frampton earned her teaching credentials in Special Education and postgraduate degree (Educational Psychology) from the University of Sheffield. She holds a Masters in International Education and certificates in the teaching of Language and Gifted and Talented Students from the University of the West Indies and Harvard School of Education. She has been teaching at international schools for the last 17 years and during this time she has taught at both Elementary and Secondary levels. Prior to coming to DAIS, Ms. Frampton, a native of Trinidad, spent seven years at the International School of Port of Spain, working in an award-winning middle school integrated program called Watershed. Molding life long learners who are productive global citizens continues to be one of Ms. Frampton’s passions for teaching.

 

Trina Roth

Trina Roth, DAIS Librarian, is now in her third year at DAIS. Trina began her international teaching career in Bogotá, Colombia teaching Grade 12 Literature and AP. She then taught literature to grades 12 and 9 in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she also began her second Master’s degree (Library Science from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) as a distance ed. student. Her first Master’s is in Education from Willamette University in Oregon (USA). Damascus, Syria was Ms. Roth’s third country; she taught Grade 4, was Librarian, and also finished her second MLIS. Before moving overseas, Ms. Roth taught middle school in Salem, OR. During the summers, she worked at a Correctional Institute for incarcerated male youth. Growing up, Ms. Roth lived in la Côte d’Ivoire for eight years while attending a Christian boarding school.
